North Alabama/Southern Middle Tennessee SKYWARN EMERGENCY NET PREAMBLE

REV F 5-26-15 KS4B

CALLING ALL AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS:

THIS IS_______________ IN _____________COUNTY, MY NAME IS ______________, I AM NOW ACTIVATING THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE SKYWARN EMERGENCY NET, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES AND I HEREBY, AT THIS TIME, REQUEST THAT ALL RECREATIONAL USE OF THE LINKED REPEATERS BE SUSPENDED FOR THE DURATION OF THIS WEATHER EMERGENCY. (BREAK)

THIS EMERGENCY NET HAS BEEN ACTIVATED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

(Read the bulletin or bulletin(s), that state the reason for activation, or defer to the Liaison Station at the NWS Office)

OUR LIAISON STATION, LOCATED AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN HUNTSVllLE, ALABAMA IS WX4HUN, WHO WILL BE PROVIDING COORDINATION WITH THIS EMERGENCY NET TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE, IN SPOTTING AND TRACKING OF DANGEROUS THUNOERSTORMS, IN THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE AREA. (BREAK)

ALL AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS THAT ARE AFFILIATED WITH A LOCAL COUNTY NET ARE ENCOURAGED TO CHECK INTO A LOCAL COUNTY NET. A LIAISON WILL BE ESTABLISHED WITH EACH LOCAL NET, FOR THE PURPOSE OF COORDINATION IN THE TRACKING AND SPOTTING OF DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS, AND TO PROVIDE A COMMUNICATIONS LINK FOR THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE COlNTlES TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA. THIS LINK WILL HELP PROVIDE THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE FOREWARNING OF WEATHER EMERGENCIES TO THE CITIZENS OF THE HUNTSVlLLE NWS OFFICE COVERAGE AREA. (BREAK)

THIS NET DIFFERS FROM THAT OF THE SKYWARN TRAINING NET, IN THAT, THE NET DOES NOT ACCEPT CHECKINS DURING ITS CONDUCT.

THOSE STATIONS NOT DIRECTLY AFFILIATED WITH A LOCAL NET ARE STILL ENCOURAGED TO CHECK INTO YOUR LOCAL COUNTY NET. I HAVE THOSE FREQUENCIES AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM.

AGAIN THIS NET DIFFERS FROM THE TRAINING NET, IN THAT THE NET DOES NOT ACCEPT CHECKINS DURING ITS CONDUCT, IT DOES HOWEVER, ALLOW STATIONS TO PASS EMERGENCY WEATHER TRAFFIC DIRECTLY TO THE NET, WHEN AND IF THAT OCCURS IT IS VERY IMPORTANT, THAT YOU GIVEYOUR CALL SIGN, SPECIFIC LOCATION AND CURRENT SEVERE WEATHER OBSERVATION. TIE MOST lMPORTANT THNG SPOTTERS CAN PROVIDE IS THE TIME OF THE SEVERE WEATHER OCCURRENCE, THE LOCATION OF SUCH OCCURANCE AND THE MOVEMENT AND TYPE OF SEVERE WEATHER SPOTTED.

(BREAK)

THIS NET WILL RECOGNIZE SPECIFIC WEATHER RELATED TRAFFIC AND ANY OTHER EMERGENCY OR PRIORITY TRAFFIC. ALL OTHER STATIONS NOT INVOLVED WITH THIS NET ARE REQUESTED TO MAINTAIN COMPLETE RADIO SILENCE. PLEASE USE DISCRETION WITH YOUR MICROPHONES. THIS IS A DIRECTED NET AND STATIONS MAY NOT CALL OTHER STATIONS WITHOUT THE CONSENT AND APPROVAL OF NET CONTROL (BREAK)

THS IS ___________NET CONTROL FOR THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE, SKYWARN EMERGENCY NET, STANDING BY FOR STATIONS WITH

SEVERE WEATHER OBSERVATIONS OR EMERGENCY TRAFFIC!

(Any severe weather report should be passed through this net directly to the NWS LIASION STATION)

10 MINUTE & UPDATE:

Net Control should Identify the net at least every 10 minutes by stating the following:

THS IS ________________NET CONTROL FOR THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE SKYWARN EMERGENCY NET. WHICH HAS BEEN ACTIVATED FOR (STATE THE REASONS FOR ACTIVATION AND UPDATED INFORMATION)

(If you don’t have access to the NWS BulIetins, then have the Liasion Station read those aloud to the net, or If you have access, ensure that the bulletins are read to the net in a timely manner.)

MAINTAIN CONTROL OF NET!

CLOSING

THIS IS________________NET CONTROL FOR THE NORTH ALABAMA/SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE SKYWARN EMERGENCY NET, IT NOW APPEARS THAT THE SEVERE WEATHER SITUATION AFFECTING THE COVERAGE AREA HAS PASSED. (Read Bulletins cancelling the watch, etc.)

I APPRECIATE EVERYONE’S PARTICIPATION IN THE LOCAL NETS AND THIS NET IN THIS MOST IMPORTANT AMATEUR FUNCTION.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I OR THE NET CAN DO FOR ANYONE BEFORE WE ClOSE? (BREAK)

North Alabama/Southern-Middle Tennessee SKYWARN Training Net Preamble

Rev. I 07/09/2016 KS4B//JH

Calling all amateur radio operators:

This is_________________ . My name is ___________and I am located in _____________________ County. I am net control station for this Thursday evening,

___________________20 ___ , Session of the North Alabama/Southern-Middle Tennessee SKYWARN training net. (BREAK)

This net meets weekly on Thursday evening of each week at 8:00 P.M local time, and involves the local area link frequency, which links the 147.240 repeater near Huntsville, Alabama, the 147.360 in Section, Alabama, 146.960 repeater near Moulton, Alabama, the 147.340 Repeater near Leighton, Alabama, the 146,820 Repeater in Winchester, Tennessee and the 147.030 Repeater in Park City, Tennessee. (BREAK)

The purpose of this net is to practice net operations similar to those used during emergency activation. When emergency activation is required, based on operation methods outlined in the Standard Operating Proceduresl, this net would activate as the North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee SKYWARN Emergency Net. The purpose of this emergency net is to spot and track severe weather and to provide a communications network that links the counties in North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee to the National Weather Service office in Huntsville, Alabama. The goal of this net is to provide the citizens within the Huntsville NWS Office coverage area with the earliest possible forewarning of severe weather affecting this area. (BREAK)

Be advised that during an actual emergency net, only net liaison stations from each county would check in to this net. Your counties depend highly on your participation in the local county nets. However, since this is a training net, all stations that have not checked in with a local county training net this week are encouraged to check in to this training net. If any station needs additional information about this net or needs a copy of the Standard Operating Procedures, please contact Net Control after the net. (BREAK)

This is a directed net and stations may not call other stations without consent and acknowledgement of Net Control.

.This is _______________ , are there any stations with emergency or priority traffic for this net?
