The Eva link is back on line....The new antenna and feed line workedgreat..Birmingham is hearing the Eva site very well now..... BUT anothersmall problem has come up!
On June 11th a team of hams went down and repaired the link problem..aftermany of you donated equipment and money.
When we hooked everything up, we discovered another problem.During the time we first discovered the problem down there back in April, they (the radio station at Eva) were knocked with yet another tremendouslightning hit! This last one took out thousands of dollars worth of theradio stations equipment. They told us a large lightning fireball driftedthrough the studio during the hit!! Fuse panels, and other equipment wereblown off the walls! Unfortunately, it got us again as well but on a MUCH smaller scale.
The UHF link frequency radio's output that all of us (on the repeaters innorth Alabama) hear Eva on, is down from 20 watts to about a half to 1 wattoutput. All of the Eva link is working after we recently replaced the feedline and antenna link to the Birmingham 442.075 repeater, but if you bringup Eva up from any of our 3 repeaters right now, it will sound noisy COMINGBACK UP THIS WAY because of the links low power output. The link toBirmingham that we worked with new feed line and an antenna is working fine. That part is in great shape! The guys on 442.075 down there hear the Evasite great now.
Jamie Wright, KD4SIY, a ham who lives less than 5 miles from the Eva sightcame down and helped us on the 11th of June. When we told him about theproblem, he donated a Motorola Moxy UHF radio for the Eva Link (Currently weare using two commercial Johnson radios donated by the Lauderdale countyEMA). Harlie checked the Motorola Moxy radio out and it is in goodshape...He has ordered crystals for the radio using the funds we havecollected. As soon as that gets changed out, we should be back up to fullpower and ready! So for the time being, it works, but it is very weak.
A many thanks to all across central and north Alabama who contributed time, money and equipment.
As soon as the link radio is changed out and we are back up to full power, Iwill let everyone know.

The NWS office in Calera/Birmingham purchased a new Maxrad UHF beam antenna to replace the bad one in Eva. Ernie Blair has the feed line that was donated by a ham in Birmingham - Mark Parmley. The beam antenna is at Rex Free's house waiting to be put up within the next 2 weeks. Ed Weatherford-N3EW is going to send a check for past due and current/future power bills at the sight to the radio station at Eva. Thanks for everyone's donations
